KJB Lately: A Year In Review

It’s truly exhausting being KJB. I’m full of inquiries, about myself and the world. I once asked my mom if she thought I was shy growing up. She told me that at first she did until she realized I was just cautious. I tended to sit back and get a grasp on my surroundings before acting. Y’all if that didn’t suddenly make my whole life make since.

I realized this year that not only have I been cautious my own life. But I’ve been waiting. Waiting for what you may ask... waiting for my life to begin. Which probably sounds ridiculous being I am a 26 year old woman without Hermoine’s Time Turner, so clearly life hasn’t stopped. Honestly that was the problem, I was waiting for my life to begin while watching everyone else just pass me by. I was cautious to a fault.

So I guess my first step to truly living was moving West at the end of 2017. As you all know, Thomas and I picked up and left dreary Ohio for sunny California. Thus completely KJB’s 10 year old self dream of my triumphant return a reality. Though, I’m not sure how triumphant it was being my return’s catalyst was being laid off, but we’re looking forward not backwards. This year, I learned that if I didn’t get outside of my comfort zone, if I didn’t stop watching the world pass me by I’m not really living.

It’s hard to move some 3,000 miles away from everyone you know and love and still not be exactly where you want to be in life but I wasn’t gonna quit. So I had quite the time making the most of 2018.

So I made a new friend and we went on some pretty fun adventures to San Francisco.

I reconnected with friends that had also moved West.

I had friends that came and visited!

Taylor Swift
Harry Styles
Gavin DeGraw & Philip Philips
Sam Smith

I went to concerts, regardless of if that meant enjoying the show alone or not.

I became a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate).

I finished and received my Masters. You’re now looking at KJB, MPA.

I traveled plenty throughout the year and spent a ton of money. But you can’t take it with you. I’m here for a good time, not a long time.

I saw three friends gets married!

I tried to date for the first time. Not well if you ask my friends, but the opposite sex terrifies me (MY ISSUES HAVE ISSUES).

But ya know, 2018 as awful it was during times, I really did manage to kick ass as much as it kicked mine. I have high hopes for 2019.

So there isn’t any grand secret to living your best life. You just have to live and craft and create to make it such. In the wise words of Taylor Swift, (I) made a rebel of a careless man’s careful daughter.

Here’s to 2019.

Flashback Fashion Friday: September

September may just be the BEST month of 2018, cause I closed out my summer concert sessions with BEYONCE and JAY-Z in LA! I continued to pay for my Planet Fitness gym membership and didn't go. The women moved back into the house and I got to experience my first Recruitment with them.
Beyonce was easily the most exciting part and that trip to LA began my love affair of Drybar! If you've never been, RUN don't walk to your nearest salon!

Here's what I wore this month...

I went from my Thomas phone case to my Beyonce red phone case! (Fun fact, I went into Apple to get the all black case and then Beyonce uploaded a photo with the red case and after a moment of crisis, I got BOTH phone cases, the more ya know!)

September 23

Ya girl, decided to wear this DRESS as a tank and let me tell you about the COMPLIMENTS that I received! Honestly this concert at the Rose Bowl was FANTASTIC and so fucking good!

September 24

I got these pants from Forever 21 from my August LA trip and let me tell you, THEY ARE SO DAMN COMFY!!

September 25

After Beyonce, it was time to embrace SPOOKY season and that began with wearing black and using my Valfre phone case!

September 27

September 28

These pants were also bought during the August LA trip and boy are they comfy!! I also receive a TON of compliments!

The month started out with some more deep cleaning on the facility. Then there was the misguided excitement over the TERRIBLE Netflix original, Sierra Burgess is a Loser... cause homie really is! But they followed up with Nappily Ever After which was great!

Well there you have it. Without Beyonce, it would've been a pretty ordinary month... thank God for Beyonce!

xo,
KJB

Next Friday is October, witches!

Flashback Fashion Friday: August

As you know from July, August was a nice reprieve from cross country driving for Thomas and I. August saw mom moving to Washington state! I went to a couple concerts, nbd (jk, VERY BIG DEAL!) I went to LA! I went BACK TO OHIO! I facilitated a facility deep clean! I went to the doctor and finished my dentist appointments, no more cavities for ya girl (for now). August was practically a cake walk after the last couple of weeks of July. However, when Thomas and I came back there was a fire in Vacaville and unfortunately, I used that as an excuse to not go to the gym *face palm*

Here's what I wore...

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Heiber!

When your friend from high school gets married, you go! Even if you can only just make it. I let the 9th at 7:30pm and flew through the night and made it to Ohio by 6am and then the wedding was later that night and then I left that following morning (Saturday) at 7:50am and managed to be back in Davis by early afternoon! It was well worth it, look at ALL those happy mugs!

Gavin DeGraw is one of the greatest performers and talents of our time and thus WHENEVER he is playing at a venue near me, KJB WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE! So I drove 2 hours to a casino in Reno, NV to see Gavin DeGraw and Philip Philips! It was fantastic! He wound up out in the crowd in line with my aisle and then directly behind me (ASS IN FACE) aka HEAVEN!

August 18

The day after Gavin in Reno, I went to LA to see some friends and found myself at the Griffith Observatory! It was a fantastic little day trip! I flew in around 8am and flew out around 6pm! Honestly, I'm becoming quite the jetsetter, and after my experience in July, I live and die by Southwest!

The next concert in the queue was SAM SMITH! Let me tell you, HE'S SOMEHOW EVEN BETTER LIVE THAN HE IS RECORDED! I'm not sure how that's even possible but it was seriously a magical performance!

The last week of August was the Facility Deep Clean, so dress code kinda went out the window with none of the live ins around and cleaning to be done! It was seriously a great month!
