This year's theme was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Church!
Also impressive are Anna Wintour’s 2018 co-hostsfor this year'sMet Gala, all much-worshiped by the paparazzi: Amal Clooney, Rihanna, and Donatella Versace.
This morning, while thinking about this post, our MCM Alum, Val, reached out to find out about the Met Gala and to weigh in on the whole event, here's what he had to say:
"I feel like high fashion and the Catholic Church shouldn't be mixed. Though the exhibit is all Catholic artwork, I presume. See my thought was the whole 'material Christianity' thing. The whole idea of "the meek shall inherit the Earth" and being humble so on and so forth. It just seems like high fashion is materialistic and therefore doesn't fit the narrative of 'a good Catholic'. But then there's no way anyone thinks like me. I'm just saying at the basis of religion thought, this can be seen as excessively flaunting your possession. And therefore I would think the Catholic Church would be against it. I'm not even religious, I just try to see it from every angle."
What do you think about the points Val raised?
I think that's the great thing about Fashion, being an art form it is a way to look at the world and history. It tells a story so it perfectly goes along with the Catholic Church.

Second, check out what Vogue has to say about this year's Met Gala: here.
Costume Institute curator in charge Andrew Bolton, worked alongside colleagues from the Met’s medieval department and the Cloisters, to show how “material Christianity” has helped form “the Catholic imagination.” 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Church' was Designed to create a dialogue between fashion and the masterworks of religious art in the museum’s holdings. - LAIRD BORRELLI-PERSSON, Vogue
Third, let's get into it:
The Venue:
The Red Carpet:
The Met Gala Red Carpet is a the public sector of an extremely coveted event. There's speculation on the price of tickets, $30K v. $80K and you have to receive Anna Wintour's approval! So to get to attend means you've received the nod from Vogue's Wintour and honestly that's all I've ever wanted in my life!
Here's a CNN's slideshow of the Red Carpet. Here's Vogue's.

The Showstopper:
Lively's Louboutin required its own bus to get it to The Met, and it honestly does not disappoint. If we're not getting Beyoncé then I'm glad we got this!
It could be good. But it's just not... I'm not sure what it is, but it misses the mark.
The men of the Met Gala as per usual left a lot to be desired... with the exception of Jared Leto and Chadwick Boseman. They came to play!
So what are your thoughts?! Who is your best dressed? Worst?
“Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” is on view May 10–October 8, 2018. A catalog with photographs by Katerina Jebb will accompany the exhibition.
