KJB Lately: Renaissance KJB

So this weekend my little sister is turning 24, besides the fact that I’ll always think she’s perpetually 12 (for reals, ask her about the time I said she was 9 she was actually 12- it’s a story she’s quick to tell and will never let me forget) even though I remember distinctly the torture that was moving home from college to live with her as a teenage (junior and senior year for me was rough with her- small miracles that this pandemic happened when we lived apart) I cannot believe that she’s going to be so old. For those that know, my sister moved to ND (Ohio isn’t great, but why anyone lives in North Dakota is BEYOND ME!) when she was 19/20, and we were estranged for a year- so I never got to celebrate her 21st birthday so the fact that she’s old enough to drink and is turning 24 is truly beyond me.

But enough about that... as an older sister and an Aquarius - I’m gonna make this about me, it is my blog after all (she’d say it’s always about me 💁🏽‍♀️) and talk about how when I turned 24, the weekend after was my celebration in Akron/Cleveland with my sorority big (we share a birthday, in case you forgot) and the exorcism that happened to my soul.

This year I turned 28 - and when I went back to Ohio at the end of February (before quarantine, such good times) and went to my favorite long lost friend, Thou Art, the place of many a tattoo and piercing once I hit 18 - I stopped by to see about repiercing my ears that had closed. They’re had quite the glo up since my last visit in July 2018. They moved a couple doors down to a bigger location and no longer take walk ins- so it meant the ear piercings were postponed until October (fingers crossed all of this is a little more under control by then and we can travel again- I’ve got a wedding to go to). after I returned home I started to think maybe 28 would be MY renaissance- after 24, and the disaster that was- I decided maybe it was time to grow up a bit. But now I’m wondering if I was too hasty. Maybe I should repierce my nose while I’m at it. My tongue? Add a couple new ones to my ears? Why not? I made a goal to have all of that done by 25 originally but at 28 I’m looking back like- why did I get rid of something that brought me joy. Sure towards the end my nose was constantly bleeding but I barely got to experience having a hoop! What the heck?! And why did I remove the tongue piercing? I championed that from 7th grade until I was 19 and I finally did it.

So the long short of it is- when this is all said and done and it’s appropriate to open up nonessential businesses- your girl is about to be edgy af. I’m gonna start the work on the sleeve I always said I wanted. Life is too short to give yourself  arbitrary boundaries and rules that don’t benefit anyone. If you’re not hurting anyone, why not live your life out loud?! Ya know!

Flashback Fashion Friday: March 2020

attn: i know that it is a monday. for whatever reason i cannot remember to post this on a friday. my b.

Y'all, January always takes twelve years to get through all 31 days. February is gone in a blink of an eye. BUT MARCH Y'ALL! MARCH- WILL. NOT. END!! First there was the two week "Stay at Home" aka the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Quarantine! Truly, I'm always happy to stay home but THIS, THIS HURTS! The beginning of the month was promising and then- then it just got worse and worse. So there was the missed trip to Vegas to see my little get engaged. Next my mom wasn't able to come visit because of the virus. Then when I thought I was finally living high on the hog with my Apple TV, my new Knives Out DVD, and my Birds of Prey/Suicide Squad boxset- my tv screen went out! I went five days without cable and Apple TV absolutely miserable but I finally got a new tv. I ended up cleaning my room with all the moving stuff and honestly- it is amazing how much my happiness was directly connected to this television experience. What a life. In this time of pandemic, it really be the little things.

Here's what I wore this month:

March 1:

This Wildflower hat is why I bought so many orange lipsticks in February! Also as much as I hate being cold, I got SO MANY COMPLIMENTS in Ohio wearing this coat (from ASOS since sold out)! Which honestly was only the second time of it's time with me being of any use. Damn do I look cute!

It is so wild how quickly everything took a turn with this COVID-19 and my hope is that everyone is staying safe and that it will end just as quickly.

What a crazy month! Another 30 days of isolation, hopefully April is better than March!

Flashback Fashion Friday: February 2020

attn: i know that it is a monday. for whatever reason i cannot remember to post this on a friday. my b.

Clearly 2020 has gotten the best of us. It especially got the best of me... I am a firm believer that February is a short month and thus, I can spend the entirety of it celebrating my birthday. YES, I am THAT girl! (and proud of it) I technically start saying it's my birthday January 13th, and keep it up until like February 14th but I'm always on a birthday high until March 1st. This year was different simply because it didn't really feel like my birthday the day of- but I made the most of it. I did my nails and hair prior to the day. The day of I went and saw Birds of Prey with some cheesecake and it wasn't so bad, but it was very weird. It was the third birthday I celebrated here in Davis but for whatever reason this year felt weird. Maybe because I was still spending it rather alone. At the end of the month, I flew back to Ohio for a high school bff's wedding! It was beautiful. When I was there all of this COVID-19 stuff was just starting to be talked about constantly. I remember vividly thinking that nothing was going to come of it. My friend's dad had been telling her mom to get her school plans ready to teach online and we thought he was going over board... little did we know what was coming....here's what I wore in February:

Asgaya & KJB Take On Another Wedding!
Congratulations to the O'Malleys!

If only I could go back to February, where my biggest issues were whether or not my Velvet Caviar ring (currently sold out) would stick to my Wildflower phone case

To Simpler Times!

Flashback Fashion Friday: January 2021

January 2021 was honestly a continuation of 2020... it was such a long ass month. At the end of the month, there was a power outage that las...
