Update in the land of KJB... my pup is a monster. I left and he was a precious boy, and upon my return - I've realized he's in his TERRIBLE TWOs and at 13 weeks, nonetheless.

But at least I still have my bronze skin! DAMN, I miss Florida!

Cheers to the weekend!

xo,
KJB

PS... Coming in June- I'm going to start MCM! I cannot wait.

Last Week's #FBF Is This Week's #TBT

Last week, I was in heaven aka Venice Beach Florida, and without wifi and my computer-- so enjoy last week's #FBF Weekly OOTD Round-Up as this week's #TBT!

Here we go:

Monday:

Monday was our travel day, so naturally I wore my favorites-- all black everything and leggings! Paired with my NEW Guess sunnies! Thank you, TJ Maxx!

Upon our arrival, we drove from Fort Myers to Venice Beach, went to the grocery and decided to go to the fan favorite The Old Salty Dog, it made me miss Thomas but their chicken tacos are something I've been thinking about since last year...

Salty Dog Slushie

Tuesday:

Tuesday, we woke up- had breakfast by the pool, took our rental car back and headed to the beach...

Where upon touching the sand, I immediately burnt my feet.

That evening, we had dinner on the Beach on the patio of Sharky's! I had a delicious burger and a yummy Bush Whacker aka a Mudslide!

Wednesday:

Same beach, another day! Vacation is really great!

We left the beach at 3, and went back home to get in the pool, did I mention Florida is HEAVEN?!

Had a bit of a photo shoot

Wednesday, we decided to order in chinese, from China Jade (yum!) and watch White House Down!

Thursday:

We had front row seats again at the beach, and I made it out to the sandbar!

Grad school isn't so bad when you're doing homework by the pool

You Go on Vacation to Take Your New Profile Pic too Right?!

After dinner at Lunas Ristorante, we went to the Jetty, where we saw a manatee and a dolphin!

Last trip we saw- three manatees, two dolphins and a stingray. This trip, we saw a manatee, a dolphin and got to swim with countless fish during our day time beach visits!

Friday:

We woke up, a decided to do the pool on Friday... So we stayed home and watched SVU all day long, from rafts inside the pool!

That evening, we went to downtown Historic Venice and enjoyed Happy Hour at Daquiri Deck, afterwards we went to an ice cream shop that also sold fudge and I got sea salt caramel ice cream in a fresh and warm waffle cone!

I think we can all agree- I had THE BEST time in Florida! Honestly, not a single complaint!

Peace Out, FL

Goodbye

Until Next Time!

WCW: Honey B Meets World

It's Wednesday! Which means it's time for our latest installment of WCW!

Meet Sara Joseph aka Honey B!

Can you tell me about your background? School?
  • I graduated with a BS in Communications-Public Relations from Akron in May 2012.

What do you do for a living?
  • I am a graphic designer for a non-profit hospice facility in Greenville, Ohio. I also help with bereavement support services and staff support.

If you’re not doing it, what would your dream job be?
  • I always wish I would have pursued my first love of journalism. I would love to be a news anchor or national correspondent.

How important is social media to your business?
  • Since most of our patients are from older generations, you would think social media isn’t so important; however, realizing that these people have grandchildren or children who are actively engaged in social media, it actually serves well as a way to keep our census up. We regularly use social media to alert nursing homes or chambers of commerce around Ohio of our services.

What would you say is your personal brand is?
  • Having fun. I could make a diaper change fun for myself. I love the saying, “If you’re bored, you’re boring.” I try to never be bored.

What can others learn from you?
  • I feel I do a good job of keeping my frustrations and stress to myself. I make sure that I will always bring a happy face and shoulder to lean on to all my relationships—coworkers, friends, my husband, and especially my children. I think that’s a good quality that a lot of people could acquire.

How do you do under pressure? How do you handle stress?
  • I thrive on pressure; I love having several different graphic assignments to deal with because it pumps up my creativity. When it comes to stress, I always talk it out with my husband or a good friend and realize that life is too short to worry about small things. Yoga and Yogi Kava Stress Relief Tea work wonders, as does a bottle of wine.

What’s the average day in the life of Sara look like?
  • I typically wake up around 5:30 every morning and spend an hour at the gym, then get home around 6:45 and shower, get ready for work, and help Kyle get our boys ready. I’m at work by 8:00am (though my boss would probably pass out if she saw me at work before 8:05, admittedly). I work with all women (52/53 employees working out of my office are women), so between my design work and talking with coworkers who have turned into friends, the work day flies by. I usually work on marketing materials for hospice—brochures for music therapy, save the dates for upcoming events, and other things like that. I leave work at 4:30 to pick up my kids from their babysitters’ houses, and am usually home around 5:00. I typically make dinner and relax with my boys all night. If my husband has a basketball game that night, we will go to support him and usually get home around 9:30pm and head straight to bed.

Do you/Did you have a mentor/mentee?
  • I can’t pick just one mentor. I am heavily influenced by all the strong women in my life—especially working mothers. A lot of my friends are working moms, and I am constantly amazed by how well they keep everything together and how great their kids are! I also look up to any woman who has a strong sense of self and is going out into the world to kick some ass.

How did you advance your career?
  • For a while, I was admittedly stagnant in my life. My husband was a college basketball coach for 4 years, and we moved to Idaho for a year and North Carolina for a year, so I felt my son Kade needed me more than I needed to work. Finally, we moved back to Ohio and I got settled in a lot quicker than expected, thanks to the fabulous support of the community of Greenville. An acquaintance told me about her job at a nonprofit hospice down the street from my house and I saw there was an opening for an administrative assistant. I went in for the interview, where the interviewer saw I had experience in graphic design. The organization liked my portfolio work and merged the assistant position with graphic design.

Why do you do what you do?
  • I have always wanted to work for a non-profit. I like that my organization enhances the lives of the sick and is so passionate about end-of-life care while not accepting any out of pocket costs from our patients. I love all the women I work with, and I love being able to create materials for State of the Heart Care.

How would you describe your personal style?
  • I really love to put off an effortless vibe, but cute shoes and good makeup are a must for me. I typically wear stretchy work pants with a nice sweater and dress it up with jewelry.

What makes up your wardrobe?
  • I love sweaters- I would wear them in August if I didn’t think I would die of heatstroke. I have a lot of scarves and plain shirts along with stretchy work pants and jeans. My best friend Abigail picks out my shoes for me because I am terrible at shoe style, but I must boast about my shoe collection!

Who is your fashion icon?
  • My style is influenced by Jennifer Aniston, Kourtney Kardashian, and Vanessa Hudgens. I love that they can make a plain t-shirt and jeans look so fashionable—completely timeless and effortless.

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment?
  • Lately, I’ve been feeling like I’m really kickin’ ass. I have two kids, a husband, a full time job, and lots of friends and feel I’m doing a great job at keeping all those relationships intact. I love what I do, I love watching my children grow, and I love supporting my husband’s basketball team. In short, I’d say my greatest accomplishment is taking the leap from stay at home mom to working mom and enjoying the process.

What is your ‘must have’ accessory?
  • I ALWAYS have to have a ponytail holder around my wrist and my wedding rings on my finger. I also have to have a good lip gloss within reach.

What advice can you give others that look towards you to gauge success?
  • In my line of business, I’ve realized that life is way too short. Do the thing that scares you. Say the thing you want to say. Upset people, but only if it’s for their own good. Speak up for yourself and above all, love and trust yourself. You cannot be successful in any aspect of life if you do not love yourself and trust your instincts.

What advice can you give on failure?
  • Kyle and I have experienced quite a bit of failure within the last few years. College basketball is a revolving door of “no’s.” I used to be heartbroken over every single job rejection he received, but now I’m so thankful for those rejections because they’ve led us to Greenville, Ohio—the place where my children are safe and loved, the place where I can count on dozens of people to help me in a pinch, and the place where the Joseph family is the happiest we’ve ever been. Trust that for every failure, five more successes are waiting to present themselves to you.

What was your big break?
  • Falling in love with Kyle Joseph. Without him, I couldn’t be “the goodest mom- gooder than all the other moms,” as Kade Joseph tells me every day.

Are you a member of any organizations? Trade Organizations, etc.
  • I am president of Moms Who Drink Alcohol and Do Laundry From Time to Time. I am always recruiting members, even if you’re not a mom.

What’s next for you?
  • I’m currently preparing myself for house hunting and maybe Joseph baby #3 in the not-so-distant future. It’s anyone’s guess, but you know whatever I’m doin, I’ll have fun doing it!

Thanks, Sara!

WCW: United States Senators

This week's WCW... is actually a group of women... the women of the Senate!

I'm happy to say that there are more than the 5/6 in the "Governor" pool! Yay diversity.

Here we go:

The Senate is lead by VP Mike Pence and President pro tempore Orrin Hatch, both Republicans, obvi.

The Majority (R) Leadership is 8 men, damn.

The Minority (D) Leadership is 8 men to 5 women, alright. The five women are Patty Murray, professional BAD ASS: Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, and Tammy Baldwin.

Each state has two senators... some states then have bipartisan leadership and others well- don't.

Alaska: Lisa Murkowski (R)
California: Diane Feinstein (D), Kamala Harris (D)
Hawaii: Mazie Hirono (D)
Illinois: Tammy Duckworth (D)
Iowa: Joni Ernst (R)
Maine: Susan Collins (D)
Massachusetts: Elizabeth Warren (D)
Michigan: Debbie Stabenow (D)
Minnesota: Amy Klobuchar (D)
Missouri: Claire McCaskill (D)
Nebraska: Deb Fischer (R)
Nevada: Catherine Cortez Masto (D)
New Hampshire: Jeanne Shaheen (D), Maggie Hassan (D)
New York: Kirsten Gillibrand (D)
North Dakota: Heidi Heitkamp (D)
Washington: Patty Murray (D), Maria Cantwell (D)
West Virginia: Shelley Moore Capito (R)
Wisconsin: Tammy Baldwin (D)

So that's 21 out of 100 Senators are women. Oh. And the women are majority Democrats. Interesting.

This information brought to you by Wikipedia.

You're Welcome!

Please take in mind that I wrote this in January-ish, so the names may be subject to change while new elections have taken effect. But ya know, I'm on the beach- can I live?

Flashback Fashion Friday: Weekly OOTD Round-Up

This has been QUITE the week!

Monday:

Monday as you all may know, I got a puppy! Thomas Winston.

Follow him on Instagram!

Tuesday:

I finished my fifth week of graduate school and started my "Spring Break" that will continue until next Wednesday... but by that point, I'll be on the beach in Florida, so it won't really sting.

Wednesday:

 Thursday:

Thomas and I had an exciting today- he came to work with me at the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio for an hour! It was quite the time!

Friday:

Being a new dog mom, is exhausting. I've had two dogs previously in my life, but for the most part it was a team effort, Thomas is 100% mine and man oh man, do I understand what new moms must feel like.

xo,

KJB

Next week, I'll be in Florida- so bear with me on the posts!

TBT or FBF, Whatever- KJB's Beach Adventure!

Meant for this to be a TBT post, but I suppose it'll just have to be a FBF post!

I love the beach. Perhaps I'm living proof that you can take the girl out of Southern California, but you can't take Southern California out of the girl.

Just being near water is a dream. And next Monday, that's exactly where I'll be!

I honestly cannot wait!

So I thought we would have some #TBT fun!

There are photos from last year's Florida trip- the only time I wore a bathing suit in 2016, which is funny because being a retired lifeguard, you would think I would always be there!

I also included photos from Panama City Beach, Spring Break 2013!

This year, I got one pieces for Florida! I can't wait to rock them!

Stay tuned... Monday can't come soon enough!

When KJB Met TWB

If you don't follow me on social media ... do you think under a rock?!... This past week, I got a puppy!

Scam be damned, I came out as victorious! Remember the sorority sister that had a puppy that needed a home, turns out I ended up being that very home!

His name is Thomas Winston Bailey, TWB, he's an 11 week old English bulldog and I'm so in love!

Follow him on Instagram to see all the fun of being a puppy!

WCW Update: Channing Hanneman

Remember our WCW... Channing Hanneman?!

Well here's an update:

I guess what is new is that I am back in school for Interior Design! I want to start my own Freelance Interior Design business in the next 2-5 years. My husband and I are also officially looking to buy a house this year which is scary and fun! This means I will be having a home buying series on my blog channingcouture.com as well as home DIY's! I can't wait!. I am also going to be a first time Aunt this year which is super exciting! So 2017 should be crazy and fun!
My videos can be seen here:  https://www.youtube.com/user/lilprincyC and I do everything from subscription box unboxing and reviews to thrift hauls and DIY's! I don't have a schedule for that as I just post videos whenever I have a new box or haul to show. It is pretty sporadic but I try to get 2 video up a week at least. Some months I get more stuff so there are more videos.

I love that Channing is back in school!

Thanks, Channing!

Story Time with KJB: I Was Scammed!

Settle in, boys and girls-- ok, mostly girls, well women. Whatever...

It's time for story time, listen to- well read... how I lost $500 in a day, the scam that I've dubbed, PuppyGate.

I have always wanted an English Bulldog puppy... ALWAYS. Last week, my friend offered me a rescue pup of my very own. By the end of the week- the prospect of bringing home that rescue pup dwindled to 100% zero, in the words of Veronica Ruckh.

So, because you can't keep a good girl down-- I started to research English Bulldog puppies that were up for adoption...

Naturally, if you are a bully lover- the dog, not the asshole children (though I'm both, but that's neither here nor there and a story for another time) you know that English Bulldog puppies are upwards of $2,500. That's not the type of money that I have lying around- I'm lucky enough to live at the mercy of the court, meaning... my mother subsidizes my life choices (#blessed) so when I came across this website:

I contacted them about Winston, it seemed like fate- I've always wanted an English Bulldog and to name him Winston- like Winston Churchill. I heard back a few hours later... It was a seemingly touching and real story about how this family breed bulldogs from time to time for the experience not to make money- WTF, KJB... that wasn't a red flag? Nope, it wasn't... they just wanted $500... This seemed like a dream come true, as I mentioned early- they usually sell for $2,500+ NOT $500 (again red flag!)... But again, instead of being skeptical I was all in.

I did want a dog after all... but which one, after screenshotting Bailey, Winston, Dean and Daisy and sending them to my mom and friends, I decided on Dean- that would then become Winston.

The next step in the process was to take my debit card and go to Walgreens and through Western Union (sidenote- did you know that you can access Western Union through the Walgreens photo terminals, the more you know)... yep, still no red flags going up ... All they needed was $500 and then they would ship the puppy, from TX to OH. oh... The only thing that gave me pause was the Western Union fee of processing, $40 for money transfer in minutes or $9.99 for next day... can you guess what my compulsive buyer and impatient ass went with-- you guessed- I went with $40 to have $500 there in minutes, I was basically the perfect person to rob- apparently.

I left Walgreens, feeling like- ya know- if this is all a farce, it's only $500 (only, HA!) and they clearly need it more than me (like that one time at the end of the semester after selling back books when I lost $20 on the way back to my dorm from the bookstore)... But this wasn't $20, this was $500 and I was in no position to think losing out on $540 was acceptable in anyway, but PAYDAY was Friday... So I waited.

Thursday morning, I went to work and on my drive- I thought about all the places I was going to take pictures with the pup... He was supposed to be arriving Friday afternoon and then our lives together would begin.

So imagine my surprise when I got to work and after a few hours looked down at my phone to see I had an email from the breeder... They needed the tracking numbers to pick up my $500... and of course- wouldn't you know that THE ONE TIME I don't immediately put my receipts into my wallet, I need them (YET AGAIN, another red flag) so I left work and raced home to get the numbers the breeder needed, Josh McTraylon (even seems like a questionable name). I got home, gave hime the numbers and he said he would take the pup to the pet carriers... Winston was a day away from coming home.

When I got back to work after an hour or so, I received a phone call AT WORK from the carrier. I needed to check my email and approve the addresses, so they could make sure the dog was sent to the right place. I checked it and confirmed my address. Then... that's when everything started to fall apart... they needed $1100 for a Thermal Electronic Crate, wait- what... Then I would get 95% of it back upon the pup's delivery... That's right- I would get $1045 back once the dog was in my custody... Well, I didn't have $1100, I live at the mercy of the court remember... I had just spent $540 and payday wasn't for another 24 hours... So naturally I forwarded the email to my mom. That's when the red flags went up- mom was like, something's not right- call BBB. I checked online, they had no record of the pet carriers, then I started to google and naturally- here's what I found:

  • If a carrier contacts you about Thermal Electronic Crates, it's a scam
  • If they tell you to go through Western Union, it's a scam
  • If they contact you for more money it's a scam
  • If they say they'll ship an English Bulldog, it's a scam- there is no pet carrier that is doing that in the United States. Oh.

I immediately contacted Western Union, they have a policy of waiting 15 days when you're trying to buy something because you have to make sure that you won't receive it and that the other person has time to return your money.

The Lancaster Police Department was called and ultimately, I sent my money out of jurisdiction, but the nice police officer did tell me to report the scam through the Ohio Attorney General, so I did.

In the meantime, the "breeder" is still emailing me... I'm not holding my breath on getting my money back, but I'm moderately hopeful.

Ultimately, I'm annoyed with myself- I'm perpetually skeptical of everyone and everything and yet- no red flags were raised during the duration of this transaction. For some reason, I wasn't concerned.

It's like in Sex and the City, when the women go to the jewelry auction, and the woman in the bathroom says how the benefactor was a smart lady until she fell in love... welp, that was me. I loved the image of that English Bulldog pup.

So now, I'm stuck living out my Gigi moment in He's Just Not That Into You, when she's on the phone with the bill collector saying that it'll never happen again...

This may or may not have cured me of my impulse shopping. I'm practically sick over this.

So there you have it. Hopefully, you'll be smarter than KJB.

Well, now I'm off to play with rescue puppies... what- I'm only human!

xo,

KJB
