This past week, with Lane Bryant's Brand Conference being in town, I wanted to style my favorite Lane Bryant pieces. I killed the game, if I do say so myself.

My personal preference when shopping, let's be real- I just don't have a ton of money, is to buy key items in stages. It's important to know what items you have in your closet so that when you're shopping you're not buying blindly. I enjoy knowing that when I get my pieces home that they'll make new and fun outfits. Honestly- it's a lot like dress up, which was my favorite as a kid- I had a bin full of costumes and clothes really are your costumes, your armor if you will for life. So choose accordingly, and always- be comfortable in your choices. Not all the trends work for everyone but you know what and how you like to wear your clothes.

Current Obsession:

  • Pairing black, red and white together- you could call it my aesthetic... are you making the right aesthetic choice?
  • My red orange nail polish, Energetic Red from Sinful Colors Professional (aka the $1.99 Walgreens brand)
  • My silver and gold watch from Lane Bryant (if you couldn't tell-- it did make every outfit), it has a thin band and a big face. Before this watch I hated mixing metals, it's something I'm working on
  • My red rose J. Crew knockoff from Target (just as cute- less than half the price of the original).
  • Pearl earrings are a must.
  • My diamond ring my grandma gave me for high school graduation- I wear it on my pinky (she wore it on her ring finger! Yikes!)
  • Monogram necklace (Silverado-- I'm looking into getting a big gold one, think Emily Ann Gemma from The Sweetest Thing)

I think the pictures say it all. I honestly had the best weekend back in Akron. I'm blessed to have some of the best people on this planet as my best friends. It was a whirlwind weekend but it was an absolute blast!

So much fun in fact that I couldn't get out of bed until 1pm today and then couldn't manage to be productive until 2pm... I suppose my college mentality was replaced by my adult senses upon my return home.

I honestly feel like my trips back to school are often like when I was little and mom would take us to Disneyland. It feels like an amazing amusement park ride, that I never want to end. I miss living within 5 minutes of my best friends but I suppose you have to grow up sometime! Coming home to dinner sure did ease that pain!

Until next time AK!

Back to my "adult" reality!

"My campaign platform lives and dies by glitter, Alexis. Just think of the janitorial clean up as me bringing more jobs to the people."
Alexis and Ashley

Episode 1, The Story of Our Lives

Episode 2, #FamSquad

Episode 3, Shady Hawkins
High school is a strange beast. With my transmission being out, I've been carpooling with mom to work- we leave the house before 6:30 and I don't work til 9... so naturally I take a nap- the other day I couldn't because the youths were too loud and the people watching was just too good! While being invisible, people don't normally peer into cars as they pass, I was able to see the strange juxtaposition of youths that make up high school. Honestly- the randomness that is a high school student body is baffling. There was a kid with Sperrys and tall Nike socks! Girls in heels (they are the Pretty Little Liars generation, I suppose), and girls in leggings- which made me wonder- had leggings been a thing when I was in school, would that have been allowed- I mean they barely liked seeing our shoulders, for crying out loud (what even is that saying?!).

That's when I realized, I never have to go back to school again. Sometimes I forget, I'm no longer that awkward teenager that I was in high school. Now, I'm an awkward 23 year old- but I like to think it's a part of my personality and rather endearing, but it's strange how far removed I am from my high school persona.

That's what makes The Ashley and Alexis Show, so fun and refreshing!
The show "follows two high school sophomores on their quest to escape mundane suburban life by way of internet fame. Starting their very own YouTube show, Ashley and Alexis tackle the pressing issues of their lives- from dramatic families to unrequited crushes to (a lack of) adequate sex education. Ashley and Alexis are just trying to live their best lives in a post-Beyoncé society, and maybe get noticed by the executives at E! somewhere along the way."
It was created by my talented sorority sister, Samantha Reid, filmed and edited by Jonathan Zuluaga, Ashley is played by Jane O'Neil and Alexis is played by Jenny Horton. The fantastically catchy music is by Brandon Olafsson and the Title Art is by Elise Paluszak. If you enjoy YouTube or pop culture references, you'll love this! There is honestly something for everyone. The Ashley and Alexis show has it all, and all in 5 minutes. It premiered this past Wednesday night and they delivered us 3 episodes! Each one is more fantastical and magical than the last. Honestly- I've watched each episode at least 3 times, max 5- and I laugh harder and find more to love each go around. I even made my sister watch it, and if you know Jade- she's picky and she loved it. Which really is a ringing endorsement.

O'Neil and Horton are unbelievably believable as Ashley and Alexis, I just know that our 16 year old selves would've been friends. It is nice to get a real talk representation of the 16 year old, feminine mystique-- I can only hope that teenagers find this and love it as much as I do, cause I think it could do a world of good for people who all too often feel alone and like the world is just too hard, cause let's be honest- in your early teens, when you're going through something for the first time- it does genuinely feel like no one else has been there before. It's only the first 3 episodes and while it's funny- there's depth in the undertones- families/home lives: latch key kids v. divorce v. a modern family, the way women dress affecting men mattering more than women being comfort enough to learn, women supporting other women, and of course Beyoncé.

"She's still caught up in the juvenile notion that being mean to other girls somehow makes her a better girl, which is totally 2008."
Premiere Night

"Things tend to go better when women work together rather than fighting over who can be in charge... like group projects and Congress."

Director/Writer/Producer, Sam and Photographer, Jonathan

Premiere Night
I see good things coming from this creative minds and this wonderful show. I'll be singing it's praises for a long time to come. I know that I'm excited to see what's next- because in the first 3 episodes we've covered a multitude of topics!
"We're doing out best to practice Feminism."
Catch a new episode of the Ashley and Alexis show every Wednesday at 10/9cst!

KJB's Rant about Trampolines...

I met the District Visual Manager
This past week, adulting wasn't too hard- still hard, but enjoyable even with my first student loan payment looming, but I digress...

I've said previously have something to look forward to...

I had mentioned  going to dinner with my friend from high school, it was the same place we went for dinner for our 5 year reunion, this nice restaurant in Downtown Lancaster. We had a cute little table for two on the balcony patio and they had a live band. We then went on an adventure for ice cream (not so secret, secret-- ice cream is my favorite) where I ended up with a 10 pack of Birthday Cake TimBits and she went to DQ for a chocolate dipped cone where we realized she had lost her debit card. So we returned to Tim Hortons/Cold Stone Creamery( so now the TimBits make sense) where we found the card just laying in the parking lot, undisturbed- she matrixed from her seat out of the car to reach without ever leaving the car- after it's harrowing escape from her purse, we chatted in my front yard for an hour. (If you know me- I like nothing more in the world than talking- especially if it's with my friends)

There's something so nice about doing something with friends from high school, that you never did or never would've done in high school in your hometown. Bekah and I usually go to my grandma's house and watch either The OC or Boy Meets World and discuss how much better we could run the world if people just let us make all their decisions for them. I mean clearly, we have it all figured out, just ask us. It's probably the Laguna Beach fiend in me that finds something so exhilarating about doing what LC and Lo were doing in high school... now, cause I'm a real adult.

Live Colorfully

Dressed in Yellow, She said Hello Come Sit Next To Me, You Fine Fellow

Hello. You're looking gorgeous today!

On Monday, two of my best friends from Akron came down and we went to Easton Towne Center, seriously- google it, it's amazing-- I've been dreaming of living there since I was 10 (and still am). I love when people come to visit. Moving away from my home away from home and my 2nd family (I realize I call a lot of people my second family-- that's really just anyone that I love and enjoy spending time with and don't share blood with) really has been tough these past few months so getting to see people is always a euphoric experience!

Especially when they've never come to visit before. KB, Madi and Ploggs were getting to see my house, my town and my puppy brother for the first-ish (Ploggs had met Harry before) time before we made our way to Easton (which was Ploggs first time). Honestly Easton might just be a modern day Mt. Olympus, ya know if Zeus allowed mire mortals to walk among the gods, but again- I digress.

We had lunch at California Pizza Kitchen, we shopped in Forever 21, you're welcome, and then went for a stroll-- just casually running through my 6 with my woes (is that what the youths are saying nowadays) - I had considered a Mr. Rogers' reference of it "being a wonderful day in the neighborhood" but I might lose somebody... HA!

Madi met and fell in love with my "woof-woof" and so when they brought Jade and I home they had to stop to play with Harry some more and then Mom got to see them all too. Cause really- if we're gonna be friends- you're gonna be friends with my mom and sister too, but honestly- it's not so bad- we're the three best friends that anybody could have- there now a Hangover reference, killin' it.

The past few weeks have been absolutely grand and the fun just keeps going! I've been having a great time at work, thoroughly enjoying my job is just so nice! I can only hope that I get my car's transmission fixed soon, but carpooling with mom everyday isn't so bad, even if I am waking up at 5am to work at 9am! And if I could only stop shopping and start saving so that I can one day move... but I figure I have a whole year for that! I have my sights on getting a puppy- I've put it out in the universe and I can only hope that Winston (my english bulldog, fur baby) is on his way!

Now, the next thing on my list of exciting things that keep me moving-- my weekend trip to Akron! For my BBs Twenty-Fun Birthday!!!

So I'll leave you with the wise words of two of my favorite people:
KB: "What does a doggie say?"
Madi: "Trampoline"
