WCW: Manderz Meets World

Happy Wednesday! We're halfway through another week and next week is August! CAN YOU EVEN BELIEVE THAT?!

Meet this week's Woman Crush Wednesday, the amazing Amanda Marotta aka Manderz!

Can you tell me about your background? School?
I went to the university of Akron and graduated at the age of 20 with my bachelors in communications a minor in consumer marketing

What do you do for a living?
I do blogging and social media for a company based out of California!

If you’re not doing it, what would your dream job be?
Owning my own coffee shop or an animal rescue place!

How important is social media to your business?
It is extremely important because my job is in the social media and website design industry

What would you say is your personal brand is?

What can others learn from you?
I really try to embrace your beauty and not cutting yourself down so whenever you say something negative about yourself like "my thighs are too big" I say you have to say something you love about yourself--just to remind yourself that you are beautiful and society's standards do not define beauty.

How do you do under pressure? How do you handle stress?
I actually feed off of stress, I love a hectic busy schedule!

What’s the average day in the life of Manderz look like?
I am blessed with the opportunity to work from home for my job so I have a pretty flexible day that I get to spend time with my family and friends. My employer encourages working around your life not living your life around work. I usually workout with my brother in the morning then go grab coffee with him. I then do my work for the day and try to go for an afternoon walk with my parents and dogs. Then I guess my evening plans depend on who is free ðŸ™ˆ (hopefully that doesn't sound lame)

Do you/Did you have a mentor/mentee?
I think my older sister has always been the best mentor in my life. I truly aspire to be like her. She is the most incredible human being and I am obsessed with her. She is selfless, funny, motivated and gives amazing advice. I always look to her for advice!

How did you advance your career?
I think internships and real world experience help a lot when you're looking to advance. Currently, I am in an entry level type position but I am always looking to help out the company in more ways and advance by being the person they can always count on.

Why do you do what you do?
I am fascinated by the concept of social media marketing and how you can market a company for free while making an impact on certain ages and genders. I also think this career allows me to be creative which was a key when I was looking for a job!

How would you describe your personal style?
I love just wearing simple colors. I am not really a pattern person, but I love the colors white and black so I guess I would describe my style as simple!

What makes up your wardrobe?
I am really obsessed with all things make up. I think that I spend way too much money on make up rather than how some people buy a lot of clothing or shoes. I think my outfit is never complete with out the perfect lipstick.

Who is your fashion icon?
I LOVE everything about Lauren Conrad's style and her beauty book. She's an style inspiration!

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment?
I think my greatest accomplishment is graduating college at such a young age!

What advice can you give others that look towards you to gauge success?
Don't measure your success off of how other people's lives played out. We all have different destinies and futures. Do not let society tell you you're not good enough because you're not full time right away and not working for a top company. Everything happens in the perfect time.

What advice can you give on failure?
Failing makes us stronger and teaches us lessons for the future. It's difficult not to be hard on ourselves but I always feel positivity is key.

What was your big break?
I think it will come one day :) hopeful

Are you a member of any organizations? Trade Organizations, etc.
I volunteer with secondhand mutts to help dogs find their forever home!

What’s next for you?
Definitely always looking for a new travel adventure!! Denver, fingers crossed!!

Thanks, Manderz!

xo,

KJB

MCM: Chad Payne Meets World

It's Monday, so here's to another MCM!

Let's dive right in, shall we... Meet Chadwick, Sir Peezy, Von Peezy, Chad, Chad Payne, What have you... This week's MCM.

Can you tell me about your background? School?
I graduated from LaBrae High School in Warren, Ohio. Currently a super senior at The University of Akron finishing my degree in Sport Management.

What do you do for a living?
I work Full Time at The Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park. I am a VIP Service Specialist, and a puppy father.

If you’re not doing it, what would your dream job be?
When I was a kid I wanted to play running back in the NFL. I also wanted to be a fighter pilot in the Air Force. Now I just want to be the worlds greatest dad/husband some day.

How important is social media to your business?
I think it's very important because I get to show the entire world my life. One RT or repost could show someone in India a pic of my puppy. It's amazing how you can build your brand and share everything with everyone instantaneously.

What would you say is your personal brand is?
My personal brand would be Relaxed but curious. Always changing and looking for what's next.

What can others learn from you?
Others can learn from my mistakes, much like I do. All they have to do is ask. I'm also a wizard in the kitchen so maybe they can learn some of my wrist skills.

How do you do under pressure? How do you handle stress?
Under spur of the moment pressure I fight like a Bull elephant during mating season. When a deadline needs to be reached and I focus on the task I get the job done. I'm constantly stressing about something, 24/7, my mind doesn't stop racing but through prayer, meditation and talking with my friends and family it's easy to get through the stress.

What’s the average day in the life of Chad look like?
Wake up around 7am, do the whole bathroom thing, have some coffee and let the puppy out, feed her, go to work, home for dinner by 6pm, do some work in the yard/garden, have a glass of wine and stare at my phone for a few hours, get a shower, in bed by 1am. Repeat.

Do you/Did you have a mentor/mentee?
I don't really have a mentor. But I do look up to and try to follow my older brother Damon and my older cousins. I like to think of myself as a very observant person so I try to pick up on the actions of the successful people around me. Asking questions is one of the best ways to learn and I never stop questioning everything. In my eyes let life be your mentor. When it comes to having mentees, no not really. I just try to lead by example and hope that those around pick up what I'm setting down.

How did you advance your career?
By just continuing to smile each and every day and giving off positive energy to the people around me, and being smart. Networking is  a key for me that has opened almost every door I have walked through, face to face, social media, phone calls, texts. You never know where a firm hand shake can lead you.

Why do you do what you do?
It pays the bills right now and I'm pretty good at it.

Who or what is your greatest inspiration?
This is a tough one, It all depends on how I'm feeling or what I'm doing, I'm a very moody person so I might get a spark of inspiration from a song, or from a tumblr post. My family is absolutely ginormous, on both sides so I don't get to speak to all of my cousins and Aunts like I would hope to. But when I do they're always so lively and have great stories to tell. Just hearing the voice of a family members who's 500 miles away can jolt me into a better mood.

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment?
Another tough one because I am extremely tough on myself and everything I have done in my past I always feel as if I can top it. So essentially my greatest accomplishment hasn't happened yet. I'll get back to you on that.

Do you have a ‘must have’ accessory? Or something you feel is your signature look?
I have a few iconic accessories, I've always been a trendsetter. In high school it was my witty pop culture t-shirts. My early college years it was my iconic bucket hats. Now I love a nice wristwatch, I'm looking to get an AppleWatch soon. I keep a small green bracelet on my right wrist that says "It's okay to not be okay" to bring awareness for mental health issues in young adults. I also just noticed that I've been wearing glasses for 17 years. So there are a ton of people who don't know what I look like without my signature whiskey tortoise frames.

What advice can you give others that look towards you to gauge success?
Don't try too hard. Don't forget to love yourself,
It's okay to put others before you every now and then, but it's extremely important to focus on what needs to be done for YOURSELF. Remember that you come before anyone else. Chance the Rapper has a song called "Wanna Be Cool" and whenever I catch myself comparing what I don't have to what others have I think of that song and it makes me grateful for how far I have come. To wrap this ramble up I would just tell that person to be their self.

What advice can you give on failure?
You only fail once you refuse to try again. Failure is just another one of life's lessons, learn from it, grow from it and do better in your next venture, even if it is the same one.

What was your big break?
Just like my greatest accomplishment, it is yet to come, like a ship in the horizon, it'll be here soon!

Are you a member of any organizations? Trade Organizations, etc.?
Sigma Nu Fraternity, Shake & Bake, Culture Club at the Hard Rock Rocksino. Payne Family Planning Committee.

What’s next for you?

Finishing my degree in Akron, then I'm looking for career opportunities out west or off of the mainland United States. I would also like to learn a new language, I speak a little Spanish, but Zo would love to get in depth and learn American Sogn Language as well.

Thanks, Chad!

WCW: Ajaj Meets World

Hey y'all! Happy Wednesday! It's back to our regularly scheduled programming... so let's jump into Woman Crush Wednesday!

Meet Ajaj!

Can you tell me about your background? School? I’m a granny now, but I went to Brenau University in a small town in North Georgia for a short period to study Fashion Merchandising. During winter break of my Sophomore year, I realized I wasn’t happy, over worked, and tired, so I quit, lol, to gain real experiences.

What do you do for a living? I’m a flight attendant and soon to be blogger. Keep a look out for my new blog coming soon!

If you’re not doing it, what would your dream job be? I’m definitely living the dream right now, but, if I could have taken a different course, I’d probably be content creator for youtube, a blogger, and a small business owner selling cool things to subscribers and supporters. I’ve always been fascinated with the life of successful youtubers.

How important is social media to your business? Super important. I haven’t launched my blog yet (it’s still in the creation/baby stages), but I use my social media to reach friends and fellow creators. It’s super cool that technology has advanced enough to be one click away from some inspirational people. I want to be an influencer for others as well. I've always had fun meeting people through social media (two of my best friends I met through Tumblr), so it’s exciting and refreshing to make friends with people who are interested in you and interesting all on their own.

What would you say is your personal brand is? I have an eye for the modern and sleek, which is what my blog will reflect. I also want women to know themselves, love themselves, and build themselves up while building up others. It’s so important for women to stand up for other women, regardless of race, gender, identity… Intersectional feminism is the only kind of feminism that matters. I want to be that voice for women. My corner of the internet is a place for everyone to come, learn about themselves, experience the best life that they can, while looking and feeling great.

What can others learn from you? How to be true to themselves. I’m always quick to admit my faults and I know I’m not perfect. No one is. It’s super important to remain true to yourself and never let anyone deter you from your goals and dreams.

How do you do under pressure? How do you handle stress? I EAT, BREATHE, SLEEP STRESS! I work in a high stress environment, but I love it. There’s something about taking control of an entire cabin (woot woot— I’m currently on a trip, where I’m flying lead) that makes you feel like a total badass! Whenever times get tough, I “woosah” a little. I have to remember that I can’t control everything, but the things I CAN control don’t

What’s the average day in the life of Ajaj look like? I either wake up super early, or I’m sleeping in! On a day where I’m working and I have an early show time, I’m hustling to get to the airport. Once I check in, meet my crew, get my position for the trip, I’m off to the gate. Safety is my number one priority in the sky, so I’m making sure everything within my control is safe and then we’re off. I spend a lot of time in hotels, in different cities, but it’s fun! I enjoy getting to meet new people whether they’re crew or passengers.

Do you/Did you have a mentor/mentee? Once I asked Danielle Bernstein of We Wore What to be my mentor! Go big or go home right?! She was getting ready for fashion week, so she was too busy, but she was awesome and super nice. I’ve followed her career for ages and I still look up to her very much. I can’t say that I’ve got a mentor unless it’s a crew member more senior than me that I love to be around. My sorority little (big up AGD) recently told me she looked up to me during our time together at BU. She called me her mentor and told be she wanted to be just like me. It’s kinda scary hearing that someone looks up to me, but also very empowering. And even though I had a hard time personally in college, I was super honored that someone actually looked up to me during a time where I was struggling so bad. Just goes to show that composure and a good attitude really pay off! So far one of my biggest mentors is a health and sex blogger over at the site VforVadge.com. She’s been an encouraging force behind me for starting a blog, and she’s even let me blog for her!

How did you advance your career? I got this job by my mom pushing me to pursue a pipe dream I had of being the quintessential “air hostess”. While advancing literally means I pass recurrent training every year, I also advance as a person—constantly having to communicate and be surrounded by others.

Why do you do what you do? I do it because I have a passion for flying and this lifestyle. As much as FA’s say how tired and fed up we are, we all really love the job because there are so many opportunities.

How would you describe your personal style? I have absolutely no idea!! I have a very preppy vibe, but I mix it in with trendy pieces. I love prep, but I also love that whole "instagram baddie” look too. I also absolutely love the whole feminine, boho goddess look. Somehow I’ve managed to integrate the two, while mixing in fun, funky pieces.

What makes up your wardrobe? There is A LOT of athlesure wear! I live in my Nike Lacrosse pullover, despite never having picked up one of those stick things before! I also love my classic Adidas track jacket, basic black leggings, and my Nike or Adidas sneakers. They’re easy to throw on and go out and run errands and since I’m confided to an uncomfortable uniform for days on end, when I can dress down, I’m quite content. I keep heeled sandals, dresses, fancy tops, ripped denim, and classic denim skirts in my wardrobe as well for days where I’m feeling super girly.

Who is your fashion icon? Bare with me, I have a lot! Kendall and Kylie Jenner, fashion blogger Nadia Aboulhosn, youtubers like Lauren Elizabeth and Katy Bellote, and Actress Vanessa Hudgens.

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment? Right now, my job is probably my biggest accomplishment. It’s awesome to do what I love, sure, but when my family and friends recognize how wonderful and highly coveted my job is, I feel an immense sense of pride.

What is your ‘must have’ accessory? Is my phone with a cute case on it an acceptable answer?! I love a cute bag/purse! A bag can make an outfit, and I’m all about bags at the moment!

What advice can you give others that look towards you to gauge success? Keep pushing and “no” might mean "not right now". Leave room to grow, do what you can. Don’t compare yourself to someone else's story. Someone’s chapter 25 might be your chapter 1 and that’s perfectly okay!

What advice can you give on failure? Keep trying. Don’t give up hope and when the efforts seem useless and you want to give up, don’t. There is a plan and a calling for you, once you find it, you’ll be so happy and your failures won’t matter when you’re content.

What was your big break? I haven’t had it yet, but I can feel it coming!

Are you a member of any organizations? Trade Organizations, etc. Right now, only my airline’s union and my sorority, lol. Do those count?

What’s next for you? I foresee myself blogging, maybe venturing into youtube in the future, and definitely keeping up with my job. I’m trying to get to the 15 year mark… I’m only one year in #LongWayToGo

Until I can get my blog up and going, for now, Ill promote my socials (shameless plug). Follow me on twitter and instagram

Thanks, Ajaj!

WCW Update: Luu Tejada

Remember our WCW... Luu Tejada?!

photo cred : @afrofrenchchick

I asked Luu and the rest of our WCWs, "what's new since we last checked in?"

Well here's an update:
Oh, jezz.....
So much has happened since I last spoke to you and I can say it's been nothing but blessings.

I am currently still working at Jay Franco & Sons. My two year anniversary is in July. It's crazy how fast time is flying.

I started taking photography more serious and decided that I want to turn my dream into reality. I have been blessed to meet other photographers along the way which has helped me in building connections.
I am grateful to say that in the time that I decided to really focus on photography I was featured online on Time Magazine, American Apparel and NBC NY. I photographed a few fashion week events this past season that were super fun. I have also had my photographs featured in 2 galleries.  It's nuts to think that in October I was talking to my coworker about wanting to show my work in a gallery and **poof** I submitted my work and it happened. It wasn't that easy but you get the jist. haha. You can achieve your goals if you really put your mind into it and I am a firm believer of that.
I tend to believe that this is only the beginning. I've done so much in such a short amount of time I can only imagine where I will be in 2-3 years from now. Photography is something that I feel will never get old to me. I learn something new everyday and I LOVE IT!

As far as projects, I am a part of a project under 'The Black Hours' working alongside a few fellow photographers and a playwright.  We took on the streets of NYC to shoot portraits and get the perspectives of the people and how they feel about race relations in America.  You can actually follow the journey on instagram: @theblkhrs . We plan to expand to other states as well.

I am also working on my own personal project.  The project is called "Mi Cicatriz" which means "My Scar" in spanish.  The end goal/hopes in my eyes are to have a solo gallery showing and to publish a coffee table book out of it. This is something I am doing on my own time and I have no deadline for this but I need it to be PERFECT so I will be working on it for quite some time.  I have been telling everyone to spread the word for me and have anyone who is interested in learning more or that wants to be a part to e-mail me: tejada.luisanna@gmail.com or direct message me on my personal instagram account: @peaceof_art

Needless to say,  I have been busy and have been working super hard but I have been having fun along the way.  :)

Thanks, Luu!

Follow Luu on Instagram to see all her amazing photos!

MCM: Michael Shanoudi Meets World

It's time for another MCM feature... this week it's all about Peanut, but you can call him Michael!

Can you tell me about your background? School?

I was born and raised in Ashburn, VA which is a city outside of DC and basically played sports for fun all my life until high school. Went to the University of Akron to study Marketing and I would say it is by far the best decision of my life so far.

What do you do for a living?

I am a Marketing coordinator for a CyberSecurity company here in Arlington, VA

If you’re not doing it, what would your dream job be?

Oh, being the Chief Marketing Officer for a major sports apparel or sports focus company.

How important is social media to your business?

It is huge! I run the social media sites for my company and it is big just because not a lot of people know what we do, let only that we exist. So, I got make sure I update it every single day.

What would you say is your personal brand is?

Lol honestly, I have no Idea, hopefully just a guy a lot of people like to be around because I am a social person.

What can others learn from you?

That no matter how tough things get or how much people tell you “you can’t do this”, you should always go for what you want in life no matter what.

How do you do under pressure? How do you handle stress?

I think I do well under pressure, I had a lot of practice when I took on leadership roles in high school and college. I learn that if you add stress to already mess up situation it will just make it worse, best to be level headed and take on the challenge.

What’s the average day in the life of Peanut look like?

Weekdays- wake up, pray, go to work, work out, make dinner, watch something on TV, and go to bed lol

Weekends- usually with family or friends depending on the day

Do you/Did you have a mentor/mentee?

I do my mentor is my Dad, cliché I know, but he has always been there when I need his advice and has exactly the right thing to say in every situation.

How did you advance your career?

Just keep looking until one stuck, I use to work for a hotel, a racing company, etc. until it landed me here. I would say I am still at the job level, and I have not found my career yet.

Why do you do what you do?

I think I am good at it, honestly because I love the whole marketing scene. Where you can take a brand and you can make it into something out of this world with the right marketing and advertising.

Who or what is your greatest inspiration?

My Parents, they came from Egypt to this country and work their butts off to be where they are today and they were successful. I mean that’s what makes want to succeed, I want to return the favor to them one day.

What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment?

Being President of the greatest fraternity, Phi Kappa Tau at the University of Akron. It was an honor to know that my brothers wanted me to be the one to lead them that year. I hope I did a good enough job in their eyes.

Do you have a ‘must have’ accessory? Or something you feel is your signature look?

My necklace my Grandma gave me before she passed. Wear it no matter what.

What advice can you give others that look towards you to gauge success?

I think if you feel successful that means you are satisfied. Always be hungry to get where you need to be, a hungry man will out will anyone to be successful.

What advice can you give on failure?

Best advice was ever given, failure is just pot holes on the road to your goals. If you did not fail that means you did not try, and if you failed only once that means you do not try all the different ways that it takes to get for your goals.

What was your big break?

IDK, do not think my big break has happen yet.

Are you a member of any organizations? Trade Organizations, etc.

Phi Kappa Tau alumni council

What’s next for you?

Hopefully, a new job here soon that will be a step towards a career instead of job. Going to get masters here shortly in Business. It’s all in God’s hands.

Thanks Michael (Peanut)!

Flashback Fashion Friday: January 2021

January 2021 was honestly a continuation of 2020... it was such a long ass month. At the end of the month, there was a power outage that las...
